Fiber Friday!! 3-20-09
«
on:
March 20, 2009 07:34:28 AM »
Happy Fiber Friday!!!!!!! Let me kick this off!!
It has been a busy week! Here's what I've been up to:
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Baby Bird
73 yds
Hand dyed by me
Superwash Merino
This stuff is disgustingly soft! This is the second softest skein I've ever spun out before. Second only to the skein I spun out of pure silk. The softness of this one almost doesn't make sense! I just want to roll around it in and giggle!! ... I mean uh... look over there!!!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Halelujah!
232 yds
Merino, Silk, Bamboo, Firestar, Angelina
I got this loooovely fiber at a local fiber festival a few months back! The Kid n Ewe Fiber Festival. I look forward to this festival every year! I'm lucky to have it so close by. The colour of these singles was somewhat hard to photograph, simply because it's so sparkly. It tricks the camera!
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Concord
Merino + Tussah
I forgot to measure the yardage. Doh!!
This is my favorite colour this week. This colour is absolutely decadent! The merino and tussah make a luxurious blend in these soft fluffy spun singles. I don't know if I'll keep this one for myself or sell it off. Hmm.
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
-----------------------------------------------------------------------
Eclipse
123 yards
4 oz.
100% hand painted Romney from Spunky Eclectic fiber club - August 2008 installment
I love working with Romney but I never know what to do with the yarn. This was a dream to spin!! It practically spun itself. Left to myself I would not have chosen the colours, but they ended up spinning up nicely. I started it on my spindle and then transfered it to the wheel when I was reminded how much I don't love spindle spinning.
Bieow Bieow is pleased!
xoxo

Drool! Those are beautiful! I think Baby Bird and Eclipse are my favourites but then I do love greens and blues....
I've been checking out the spinning board for a while now and I'm really pleased that I can start showing off my own handspun. I'm still learning really and this is only my second skein of plied handspun but I'm pretty pleased with it....
It was spun from some hand dyed Shetland. It's not a huge amount - there's about 74 yards and 1.1 onces of it. It was spun and plied on my drop spindle though and the spindle was rather full by the end of the plying - think I need to make one of those CD and dowel spindles as my wooden one is rather heavy...... well, until I've saved up enough for a wheel anyhow!
Thanks for looking!

Oh, your yarns are absolutely beautiful.
This is my first contribution to fiber friday, it's the first yarn I've spun. I received a drop spindle and some fiber from the lovely mullerslanefarm in a swap and that's what I used to make this.
I still need a lot of practice but one day I'll spin better yarn
So.. enough talking. Here's the proof.

Ah, it's been awhile. I've been doing loads of spinning , but was camera-less as my partner was backpacking around Germany. I've been spinning yarn for a local doll maker. Haven't taken any photos of that yarn, but here's a link to her flickr page -

It's Fiber Friday!!! My favorite day of the week here on crafster. Everyone's yarns are so gorgeous. Baby Bird, Lavender Sachet, Melba, and Cranberry Bog are just a few of my favorites this week.
I have a few to contribute this week. I'm mostly been making batts. I just can't get over how much I love my new drum carder. And, I've learned that I like spinning from the batt more than anything else. In fact, all of the yarns I did this week were spun from one of my batts.
First up: Still on the bobbins are three bulky wt. singles for two "Jayne" hats that I will be making this next month. Each one has 100 yrds (hopefully) on them. I'll be doing an overdye on all these, as the colors are to pale for the hat that I am making. Oh, they are superwash wool and nylon.
"Confetti" - This one is a mixture of sooo many things. I made up a scrap batt with white mill ends, misc left overs from other projects, and tons and tons of yarn pieces. I pulled apart each piece of yarn into many pieces so they would card and spin up nice. I absolutely love this yarn, but I'm not sure how to finish it. Do you think I should ply it with another fun yarn, or maybe some rainbow thread? Or should I just leave it as a single?
I'm not sure what to call this one. 1.6 oz., 79 yrds. Navajo Plied. Approx sport - worsted wt. This one is combed rambouliet top handdyed.
Not sure what to call this one either. Combed rambouliet, lots of nylon, and some "punta" wool. 38 yards, worsted wt.
