I adore Janis Joplin, but I truley adore this vest.

I've found a few pictures of her in it, but I can't find the pattern anywhere.

Does anyone know of a similiar pattern?
Or, Should I just try to make it up?
Also....is it even crochet?
I think it is, you know, or I would have posted it otherwise, but is it?
& also, if I do figure it out...what color is it even supposed to be? ( B&w photography is awesome, except at times like this.)

I would appreciate any insight into this issue.
thanks.

 It could be knit.

I don't have answers, but I agree it is adorable!

I'd like to see it with a single tie in the front.

This is what I've been looking for (and the right/best material to make them from) #10 crochet thread seems too fine (though I have one pattern that calls for this I'm trying now) and seems like most of the patterns I find are for 4 ply knitting worsted weight (acrylic, etc) which seems kind of heavy for summer tops.

What got me started on this, I know someone opening a tattoo shop, that would put them in to sell (made ones). So, I'm thinking of what women who have or getting tattoos might wear. Ones with belly button piercing (would this catch on crocheted stuff? Thus, the Janis vest, with maybe one tie in front, would be perfect. Maybe with a tube top under it.)

I've been spending a lot of time (and money, I can't really afford) getting pattern books- Amazon sellers are a good source of them for less.  Buying various yarns on ebay.

My last idea, which I haven't received yet, is just plain cotton string. White (in large cone). I've been looking up dying cotton string/yarn online and apparently one can use PAAS Easter egg dye (gotten in season).

I don't know if the Janis vest would look good in tie dye (might be a big much) but it could be any color, actually.  I mean, in the B&W picture of her wearing it.

Thanks for posting it, and if I come across something I'll let you know.

I'm gonna say that's definitely crochet mesh, and is totally cute!  I'd try some swatches of filet mesh in a sport weight cotton and go from there.  My best guess on the pattern shape would be the circular shrug pattern on the knitting board, adapted to crochet.

  I've been searching, too.

Came up with the same things. Crocheted, gold (probably metallic)

Came back here and see the color picture.

It doesn't LOOK like it would be hard to make.

I would still try it (if a pattern shows up) with a single tie in front.

Apparently this style is part of what's called "Boho" (Bohemian)

Thanks so much!

I think I might just make one up, since I can't find a pattern

Maybe you could modify one of these to create the same vest/bolero.

Bolero 1

Bolero 2

Bolero 3

Bolero 4

Hope this was helpful.
