One of my paper mached birds from this swap finally arrived at his new home and it was suggested that he get his own post.
This is the gallery thread for that swap.
http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=285684.690

Here are a couple shots I did of Karl before I sent him on his way.

These two guys were a previous swap incarnation of the IYP swap as well.

They are all done in the same manner. Paper mache on a newspaper base with lamp components.

Sorry about the size on these, I did resize but I don't think they liked it so well.

I looooove the crown! You should make crowns that would fit on the other birds you've made so they can change up their look should they be feeling spunky.  Grin

I love the color transition, too...purple to green. Very nice.

Hehe, it's funny you say that Aroze, I actually felt guilty giving him a crown and not the others. I have been thinking about wardrobe accessories though.  Grin

I may just have to give that some thought. I wonder though if I could get it so that it wouldn't wobble as there is a definite "roundness" to the top of any of the birds' head.

OMGosh, I love him soooo much!!!  The color is fantastic and he has so much personality!!

How did you do the eyes?

Oh, wow, I've never done paper mache, but I might have to try, I would love a bird sculpture.

Thanks Jatoha!

The eyes on my original ones are all paper mache. I like the "rustic" feel of them that way.

The eyes on Karl I smoother over with paper clay for a smoother look and then painted them.

I'm really torn between the different looks of the eyes. I kind of like both types.

I'm glad my red bird got his photo in your post! I love these birds so much. Mine is sitting on the coffee table in my keeping room, right near my red sofa. He's a focal point in the room!

If you ever get to making accessories, let me know.  Cheesy

Blaine! My bird's name is Blaine! He's in the picture with Racky's red guy.  Ok, I'll admit I can't remember the name of my yellowy-brown guy...can you refresh my memory, Babs? Its a good thing I don't have kids, I'd forget their names too.

What about little ribbon attached to each side of the base of the crown, to tie around their heads like a bonnet. That would be so regal.   Grin

I wouldn't have felt right not including them!

I'm really thinking about accessories now. I know crowns and hats would be great but what other kinds should they have?

What about little ribbon attached to each side of the base of the crown, to tie around their heads like a bonnet. That would be so regal.   Grin

Totally think this would be a great idea!

Ok, I'll admit I can't remember the name of my yellowy-brown guy...can you refresh my memory, Babs? Its a good thing I don't have kids, I'd forget their names too.

Yours is named Blaine.  Grin Hehe, I had to look it up.

They are so cute! I love Karl's little crown, it's so sweet Smiley

I guess their stand is a lamp base?

Yes and no.
I used those lamp, ceiling light fixture parts that actually go on the ceiling to cover the electrical box and for the life of me can't think of what they are called. The stem part is some all-thread type stuff. All found in the lamp fixing area of Lowe's hehe.

I'm so bummed that I didn't think to write them on the underside like I have been doing...  Roll Eyes

Racky I tried going back and finding the name of yours as well, haven't found it...yet.

A cape eh?

To make up for his apparent lack of wings, maybe?

Ooh, how about wings!  hehe!

If not a cape, maybe a collar. Or wings. That would be cool too.

I would suggest trousers, but that would be a bit tough. Unless they had velcro on the sides like the kind Chippendales dancers wear.

(Yes, I totally amused myself with that mental image and No, I've never actually seen any Chippendales)

I think trousers would be a bit odd considering they each have only one leg, aroze.  Roll Eyes

Ooh! There was a worm that wore an outfit in one of my books when I was little! Was it some kind of trousers? Damn what was his name? Lowly Worm! Cheesy (it was a Richard Scarry book)

I think a beret would be cute! Or a tie!

Okay so beret, collar and wings. Oh how about trouser instead of trousers because they only have one leg, hehe.

I'm definitely gonna have to ponder on this. Could be very interesting.

Accessory ideas:

- tutu or skirt -- I think it would be funny to see them in a tutu because they seem too dignified to wear something so frilly.

- Strand of pearls or necklace

- Tie

- Tophat

- a newspaper hat--- the ones that are folded and look like a sailboat, I was thinking it fits with the paper mache

- what about big eyelashes for the eyes?

- a scarf

- a purse

- bride and groom birds; one with veil and one with tophat and bowtie

okay, that's all I can think of for now.
