My reality check just BOUNCED!

So my mother asked my brother and I to create a mini reminiscent cake for my aunt and uncle on their 35th anniversary party.  Now, I wasn't even born  wedding took place and the pictures left a lot to be desired, so I had to just go with gut feelings about the cake.

Ultimately it was supposed to feed about 100 people and be a modern day version of the cake they had for their wedding ... with one twist ... we were to add something that would represent each of my aunt and uncle when they met.

I wish I was able to get better pictures ... but these aren't too bad I guess

The original was just a simple silver cross, plastic bells and white piping with silver leaves.  My Mother happened to have a silver cross exactly like the one on the original cake.

The original was butter cream icing and we did fondant and they I made a key lime cake with key lime filling, lemon with lemon filling, and orange with orange macadamia cut fill.  I also left 2 little tiers with white and white.

No one could find the topper from their wedding so at the last minute we decided to take inspiration from Duff and put some extra bells on wire and hang them off the top of the cake as a makeshift topper .. it turned out really nice actually.

my Uncle was in the Air Force when they met (hat is fully edible)

my Aunt was a nurse when they met (hat is fully edible)

I think the biggest compliment was when my Aunt and Uncle and other guests to the actual wedding asked how my cousins got the original cake decorated to duplicate the cake.  They were in shock that we were able to take the very blurry and grain photo and turn it into a mini modern version of their cake.

I will have to see if I can get someone to send a me a pic of the original, so you can see what I had to work off of.

C&C always welcomed!

That is a neat idea to make a replica cake! And you know you done good if people who actually remember the wedding noticed! It looks great. Are the hats icing all the way through or is there cake inside?

It's actually rice crispy treats in there.  *Giggle* that would be A LOT of icing!

lol Brilliant! Yeah, I was actually hoping it wasn't icing all the way through because... ew. Don't know if that would count as fully edible! haha
