Is there anywhere that sells fiber in Tucson?  I just ordered some off the Internet (Sheep Shed Studio), but it would probably cheaper if I didn't have to pay shipping.  And do we have an LYS in Tucson?  What does LYS stand for, anyway?

LYS stands for Local Yarn Shop and we have a couple here in Tucson.  We have Kiwi Knitting Company http://www.kiwiknitting.com/ on 5th st, across from Rincon Market down by the University.  We also have 2 Purls, one on Broadway between Kolb and Pantano and the other on Oracle almost all the way to Magee.

In terms of local fiber, I have only been able to find one fiber seller Katherine Withers http://www.uniquedesignsbykathy.com/  She is a super nice lady.  She rents some wheels very resonably and has sheep and llamas that she sells the fiber from.  She is WAY out on the west side.

Katherine is nice, but the fiber is prety much the same cost as online.  I actually prefer shopping online at places like Spunky Eclectic because there is a larger variety of fibers and colorways.

Ohmigod - I hate those commercials, they're so obnoxious - "If it's worth your time, it's worth Purl's!"  And they act like the only thing you can do with yarn is knit.  Ugh.  Are they a decent shop?  The look like they'd be pretty expensive.

Did you see that article in the Star about wool roving bead necklaces?  Well, I went into the West (over on River and Craycroft) because I was done eating and bored and my family was still eating in that restaurant that's constantly changing (right now it's called El Minuto).  They were having a "Patio Sale" and their window said "fibers" on it so I figured, what the heck.  After five minutes, I finally find their needle felting section, with a copy of that article displayed on the aisle-cap display, with bits of roving about an inch and a half across, circularish, and like 1/4 inch thick.  For TWO DOLLARS!!!!!!!!!  I was like, Jeez!  I just bought 2 lbs of wool online for $10/lb if you include sipping!  That's like 1/16 oz!

Heh, [/rant]......
