Thanks for sharing this.  I love vanilla and use it lots, and yes the extract is EXPENSIVE.  I tried to make vanilla sugar once, but didn't come out too good.  Will try this when you post your feedback.

Thanks again Smiley

I can't wait to find out how this goes. My Best Friend my mom and I do a great deal of baking and I want to try it but, I am a chicken when it comes to this stuff so I wanna know for sure if it is good before I try it lol.

Hi, everyone!! I'm sorry that this is a month late, but I've finally posted an update on the vanilla extract experiment on my first post if you want to check it out. I hope it doesn't disappoint anyone. Grin

(Sorry for the huge post, I just wanted to give a sufficient update to this experiment!)

Huge post is fantastic, thanks very much for all the information and the time and trouble you have taken.

I have bought some good quality vanilla beans and vodka, but just need to find the right bottles.  Have loads here, but they're all double the volume suggested, so the link to the other site is great, am going to have a look and hopefully get started.

Is also good to know that you have to leave it longer, as people may be put off and think it isn't working.

Thanks again, can't wait to try it.  Cut one of my other vanilla beans for something else the other day and the kitchen smells gorgeous, so can't wait till I have all this extract. Glad yours was such a success.

This is very interesting! I do loads of baking as well, and your vanilla extract looks so good! I may have to try this... You can also make awesome vanilla sugar, too. Just put a vanilla pod in a jar full of golden caster sugar. after a week it will smell delicious! All you need to do is shake the jar around now and again to spread the flavour. I can't wait to make my own extract too!
