Overlong neckwarmer

I went to buy fabric the other day and noticed they had a big box of yarn (or wool? I'm lacking technical terms in english...) for sale.
I found the prettiest chunky yarn with tiny turquoise thread in it that I just couldn't resist. It was only 1,50 Euro instead of 8,50 Euro per ball so I had to have it. Unfortunately there were only three balls left, not enough for a whole scarf.
So I thought I'd make a neckwarmer like I've seem them on this board.

I don't knit a lot and somehow I miscalculated...big time. It turned out too wide and too long. I still have a ball left and I'm not sure if I should have made it shorter or longer but less wide... it's kinda big for me now (I'm tiny though).

I love it!  I love the scale, I think it's perfect.  Any longer and it might look like a giant scarf is trying to eat you, but at this length it looks perfect!  Huge and sculptural.

That yarn is great, I love that turquoise thread, too. I like the large look, and it would be warmer, too.

I like the length/width, but you could always unravel it and make a longer, skinnier scarf!

I'll have to learn how to knit hats then  . I've only ever knit scarves and socks. But that's a great idea thanks! I had not thought of that.

I know, I think I'll leave it like that for now and see if I really wear it and if I don't I might make a skinnier scarf.

You already know to knit a hat   Just knit a very short scarf about the width of your head. Garter stitch -- knitting each row -- works well. When it's as long as your head measurement, stop and bind off. Sew the cast on and cast off edges together. Gather one end. Voila!
