I've found a lot said about citrus scents not lasting in CP soap, but what about HP?  Anyone know?

Hmm, not sure. I think part of the reason they don't do so well in cp is burning off during gel phase from low flash points, so I think maybe they are supposed to be better in HP since you can add them at the end? Or I might be confusing that with something else, now I need to go check out citrus oil flash points lol!

I think our main hp folks around here are arimethia and simplyorganic

Methyl salicylate, which makes up about 98% of Wintergreen oil, is extremely harmful in high doses and there are documented cases where it has been lethal, even in dermal applications. (For example: http://nbcsports.msnbc.com/id/19144600/ http://escholarship.org/uc/item/08327811#) Most of these cases are extreme, but they do demonstrate that, of all the essential oils you could choose to use, this one may not be the best bet. And anyone thinking of trying it should be aware before they make their choice.

I have to point out- because I've studied Essential Oils and use them in my massage practice- that this study does contain valid information but also leaves out some valid points.  Metyl salicylate is a major constituent of Wintergreen oil- but essential oils are made from the entire plant, not one constituent, and their medicinal properties are based on the synergy of the plant as a whole.  The study did not use the pure essential oil of the wintergreen plant- just the Methy Salicylate.  I hope that makes sense!  I would also like to point out that not all EOs are the same- there's many differences in the distillation processes used to make them- and I exclusively use YL products.  They may be pricier, but your body does absorb the EO thru your skin, so I'd use as much care as I would purchasing something I'm ingesting.

Well I certainly hope you're not ingesting soaps and lotions! Wink

Quick question..  has anybody had any luck with a really awesome Coconut scent for CP?  Ultra uber bonus points if it's something natural..  I'll get an FO if I have to, but I'd really rather go natural..

Thanks!

Nope, I've only had some that faded or mutated. I do ok with coconut lime verbena though. I don't think there's a natural option, or I don't know of one.

Have you done coconut milk before? Totally not trying to scare you off, but I've gotten a strange grainy consistency with it. Maybe I used too much. It had a wonderful lather and feel though! And if someone else has an awesome recommendation of a good coconut FO I'm still looking! I had one years ago but that company is out of business and the last couple I tried weren't good so I probably won't buy another one wtihout a recommendation.
