It's coming around quick, but it's mothers day on 22nd March.  I wanted to make them a present each and wanted to try purses.

Therefore I made these.

I have a tutorial too.  I know these have probably been made before and tut before, but I just sat down and sewed.  They took about 1 1/2 hours each and cost 2.50 each so not bad at all.  I'll work on submitting a tut if you'd like it.  There are lots of photos on my member page which can help.

TUTORIAL

Take FQ of choosen fabric (anything but Jersey knit)
Same in lightweight Interfacing
FQ in coordinating lining
1 button
Matching Thread to main fabric and the lining fabric
Sewing machone & 2 hours approx

First make pattern template.  I wanted a rounded edge small clutch.  So I drew a an oval type for bottom on A4 and similar on smaller piece paper.  I taped 2 pieces of paper together.

Fabric cutting - Looking at that pic, Id need a whole shape for the back and flap.  From my FQ I could get all the outer material for 2 bags, but it does depend on your patter size.  I fold over the top section to cut the bottom piece including a seam edge along top.  I do this for main fabric and 2 lining on bottom pieces.  I would also cut a top piece in main fabric which will be on the inside of the flap.  Then cut 1 interfacing of full size and 1 of bottom piece.  Make sure you give yourself ample seam allowances.

All those words should mean you have the following fabric pieces

Iron Interfacing to back of main fabric. This is back and bottom front fabric pieces.  After this put right sides of main fabric together and sew around the bottom piece, but leave a opening along the top to make a pocket.

Take the other top piece of flap fabric which is main fabric and a piece of bottom lining fabric.  Join these along their centres for which you ought to have left seam allowances for this.

Take other piece of bottom lining piece and sew this to the lining you have just attached to the inner top flap too. Leave the same pocket as on the Interfaced main fabric.

Then put right side of fabric top flap together.  Then sew around the top flap bit.  You ought to have pockets you created on the larger bottom bits on the inside.

Then turn inside out.

The bottom pockets are now on outside.  Turn the bottom of the one with the main fabric inside out.  Leave the lining.  The lining bottom one goes inside the one youve just turned inside out.  Then sew the top of the pockets together.

Then attach button and make a button hole.
How to centre the button hole

There you have it.  I hope the Tutorial is ok.  If not and any other questions, just ask.

I love the shape and the little flap over with the button!  They look really nice and professional.  I also really like the fabric you chose.  Do you have a picture of the inside?  Well, I'm with everybody - I'd love a tute!  Thanks for the offer!

Very cute - but I realize you must be in a different part of the world from me since I've always known Mother's Day to be in May.  Doesn't matter, this should serve as a reminder for me to get my butt in gear and think about what to get my lovely Mom.  Great job!

Thank you so very much for your kind words.

I can't believe I've made it to the FRONT page on the Hot New Topics.  Ok, call me sad, but I've always wanted to get an item on there,  but didn't think I ever would.  Hubby now really thinks I have gone mad as i'm please about being a Hot New Topic.  He says its only a website!  It's more than that to me.  I'm so please I found this place last April as it has spured me on to create which makes me happy.  Thank you all very much.

Yes Mothers Day in the UK is end of March.  Don't know why, would prefer the better weather in May.  Fahters Day in the UK is mid June - go figure!

I will do a tutorial in the next few days.  They are very simple to make.  My husband did think I was going mad as before I made them I was talking aloud to myself about how to do them.  (sorry fot the next TMI bit- the idea came to me whilst on the loo of all places!) Hopefully the pics I made when constructing the 2nd one will help my totrial words make sense.

thank you again.  I'm gushing with pride and smiles.

Almost had a seizure when the "Mother's Day in March" issue came about...*phew* At least now I (feasibly) have enough time between now and then to actually make her something!

Thank you for all your kind words.

I have to say that I had forgotten how lovely the fabric was.  It is a shame I can't find it any where.  It's a Japaneese out of print cotton.

My mum still uses hers as a make up bag & after 3 years it is still looking good!

I have made several different versions of this since with different closures and sizes, but the originals are my favourite.
