This is not my *favorite* song, but it is my son's favorite, therefore, it is my favorite by association.  I learned the song when I was in kindergarten. I sing it to my son 20+ times a day to appease him.  March 5th is my sons FIRST BIRTHDAY!! (yay!) So I had to make a cake!

The cake is a simple chocolate cake with chocolate frosting. I found a recipe for butter cream fondant here.   http://allrecipes.com/Recipe/Rolled-Buttercream-Fondant/Detail.aspx It uses a lot of powdered sugar. so much, I ran out and had to work the fondant like play dough instead of rolling it out.

The song is pretty simplistic, but he's one. He probably just likes the funny faces I make when I sing it. Also the words glunk glunk can be changed to whatever sound you want. If you are unfamiliar with this song, a simple youtube search of "went the little green frog"  will pull up hundreds of videos of people (young and old!) singing it.

glunk glunk went the little green frog one day
glunk glunk went the little green frog
glunk glunk went the little green frong one day
and his eyes went glunk glunk glunk!

Also, an action shot of the cake being eaten (you know, to sway the judges... mwah ha ha!)

Yep - the version I learned went mmm-AH (hard a sound, like ack without the ck.) The cake is adorable, and so is your son!

I love it, it's adorable!
Of course, this is one of those songs that randomly gets stuck in my head at odd times. My husband is particularly fond of when I start singing "We all know frogs go pop in the microwave..." What can I say my family was twisted and the song had at least 8 verses.

Looks like your son loved it too!

A version of that song was sung during our swimming lessons when my son was a around 6 months old! Nice.

Love the cake, it's almost disturbingly awesome!

that frog is totally GLUNKworthy.  he has so much... volume?!  yeah.  very lovely big frog.  i wish you would make more in polymer clay or papier-mache and sell them.  i would seriously buy or swap for a giant papier-mache one for ... well, just to sit around glunking gloriously, i guess.

creative criticism always appreciated!

He's so glistening, it's almost like real frog skin. That was an ambitious cake! Good job!

We used to sing this at brownies but it had an extra verse, used to love this!

"mmm mmm went the little green frog one day,
mmm mmm went the little green frog,
mmm mmm went the little green frog one day,
and the frog went mmm mmm mmm,

but we know frogs go nah ne nah ne nah
nah ne nah ne nah, nah ne nah ne nah,
we know frogs go nah ne nah ne nah,
they don't go mmm mmm mmm

the mm mmm's would be followed by a sticky out tongue, and the nah ne nah ne nahs would include hands on the side of the head waggling them about and the AHHHH would be yelled that was my favourite bit

I love your cake and I love frogs  Cheesy

that cake looks awesome!

i also knew the version that said "mm ack," and our second verse was a little more tongue-in-cheek.

2nd verse:
honk honk went the big mack truck one day
squish squash went the little green frog
and the frog doesn't go mm ack anymore
cuz  he got licked up by a dog, ruff ruff!

Smiley a tadbit evil, but that's how i learned it, and we had little hand motions to go along with it too!
