I worked hard, but didn't get finished.
I'm sorry but this might be a 'story'.
A while back I decided that I wanted to make I spy quilts for my kids. I wanted 2 inch squares made into 1 foot square blocks.....that's 36 squares per block. Each quilt would have 24 blocks....that's 36x24=864 blocks per quilt....2 quilts =1728 squares. Here's the kicker...I wanted them all to be different. It didn't take long for me to figure out that they couldn't all be different. So, I had to settle for each blanket not having 2 of the same squares. Now, where to find 864 fabrics?
The good people of craftster donated, I bought scraps, friends, etc. I cut fabric for almost 3 months...then this challenge came along and I thought I could piece together a top before the deadline, but I was wrong. So, I didn't get the tops pieced together...I did get 24 blocks finished, half his and half hers...
All while I was sewing the song Coat of Many Colors by Dolly Parton came to mind A LOT. (My parents like country music and when I was a kid this was ALWAYS on the radio).
Back through the years
I go wonderin once again
Back to the seasons of my youth
I recall a box of rags that someone gave us
And how my momma put the rags to use
There were rags of many colors
Every piece was smallAnd I didnt have a coat
And it was way down in the fall
Momma sewed the rags together
Sewin every piece with loveShe made my coat of many colors
That I was so proud of
As she sewed, she told a story
From the bible, she had read
About a coat of many colors
Joseph wore and then she said
Perhaps this coat will bring you
Good luck and happiness
And I just couldnt wait to wear it
And momma blessed it with a kiss
Chorus:
My coat of many colors
That my momma made for me
Made only from rags
But I wore it so proudly
Although we had no money
I was rich as I could be
In my coat of many colors
My momma made for me
So with patches on my britches
Holes in both my shoes
In my coat of many colors
I hurried off to school
Just to find the others laughing
And making fun of me
In my coat of many colors
My momma made for me
And oh I couldnt understand it
For I felt I was rich
And I told them of the love
My momma sewed in every stitchAnd I told em all the story
Momma told me while she sewed
And how my coat of many colors
Was worth more than all their clothes
But they didnt understand it
And I tried to make them see
That one is only poor
Only if they choose to be
Now I know we had no money
But I was rich as I could be
In my coat of many colors
My momma made for me
Made just for me
The lyrics in teal are the ones that I felt really represented this project.
So here are the pictures. I probably shouldn't even be entered into the voting...or no one should vote for this b/c I didn't get finished, but I worked so hard I wanted to share.

Here is a sample of a block. In each block there is one square that I drew...this one is the sign for I love you.
