I used Debbie Bliss's Baby Smock Coat pattern from her book Simply Baby. This project has been my largest undertaking in almost seven years of knitting, since I don't generally have the means or the money for large projects. I knit this for my baby cousin Wynne who I helped my aunt take care of when she was first born and I knew that a good coat would be appreciated in cold Chicago winters.

What a beautiful coat. I love that you made it black for a baby.
That's a whole lot of knitting! Lovely work.

Nice work! I love the black too. Maybe an odd thing to say, but there really aren't enough black clothes for babies and little kids.

This is lovely! I especially like your sophisticated color choice, nice to see baby clothes that aren't pastel. Wink

I love that,  such an elegant look for a baby girl and your knitting is beautiful.  As a mother to 4 girls it is great for everything to not be pink & purple.

Thank you all for your wonderful comments!  The picture doesn't quite capture the color since the coat is actually a dark navy blue which I thought would go well with the baby's reddish hair. You can see it better in this picture, complete with baby!

im gathering the courage to move from scarves and hats to possibly lil sweater.. i dont have a baby *still new to knitting, baby or babydoll size is all i can handle at the moment lol* to make one for, but my cousins lil girls love their baby dolls.. *which are naked 75% of the time.. maybe its a sign? lol*
