Wonderwoman is always a classic!Or catwoman but thats probably gonna be a popular one!I remember going to a fancy dress party and there were two catwomen and it wasnt pretty! Ummmm Supergirl, the girls from Xmen, Poison ivy. Poison Ivy would be good(shes from batman) as you can wear all green and sew some flowers of fake plants onto your clothes!
Heres some pictures:

Theres also one of batgirl there.
Hope this helps
p.s as you can probably tell my b/f is a comic book geek!

unless you want the corny campbells can on ur chest (soup-er hero), make your own superhero!
make a funky cape
a matching letter for your front
undies on the outside
a mask
and you're good to go!

if it's a fancy dress party and you want to be a villain, Maleficent from Sleeping Beauty would be fun.  I had one of these parties years ago and went as Superwoman. I stapled yellow paper stars on some thrift store found blue slacks i cut into shorts, wore a yellow tank top, black shiny knee high boots, a plastic tiara with a red paper star taped on the front, and a cheepy costume whip as my accessory. It wasn't fancy, but it was cheap.  My boyfriend went as a villian and dressed like a WTO delegate(yes we were in seattle at the time and it was a few weeks after the protests), with a nerdy white button up shirt, horn rimmed glasses, name tag denoting his delegate status, and a handful of fake money.  Otherwise some other fun ideas might be Rainbow Bright, sailor moon, any other disney stepmothers, a fembot, Natasha from Rocky and Bullwinkle.....

Don't let the stereotype of a character keep you from dressing up in an outfit you'd love to wear!  Maybe you'll be the new and improved version...  Poison Ivy sounds great too--perhaps a bottle of calamine lotion for the hosts?

Check out the "Incredibles" costumes.  These would be super easy to replicate, especially elasti-girl's.

I would rather be bitten by a snake than walk thru a spiderweb and not know where the spider is!

Bring along some thread, bits of fabric, beads, whatever you have from the crafts you're into, and go as (drumroll please)... Captain Crafty!   Grin  Here to save the world from boring clothes and mass-produced household knickknacks!  Defender of punk knitters and men who crochet!  Destroyer of cute little geese in bonnets!

If you have a hot glue gun, make a holster for it and bring that as your weapon.  Or wield a couple of knitting needles ninja-style.

Grin For Halloween I was a Ninja Turtle, Michaelangelo to be exact.  The costume was super easy to make and turned out to be ridiculously awesome. [/b]
All I did was buy a green t-shirt, some iron-on transfer paper, orange fabric, and yellow & green posterboard.  First I took the yellow pecks off of one of the pictures and blew it up to fit my chest and stomach.  Then printed it out and ironed it onto the front of the green t-shirt; to do this I needed to combine 2 pieces of paper.  After that I drew an oval out of the green poster board using the enitre piece up and cut it out.  With the yellow I did the same thing only smaller.  Laying both colors together I stapled the bottm portion and started to stuff it with newspaper to make it more rounded and 3-D.  Once that section got full I added more staples followed by more newspaper stuffing and so on until it was the desired shape.  *I bought 2 of each color for mistakes and I am glad I did cause the first pieces really help to get your method down.  When the shell was complete I took marker and drew a turtle shell pattern on the green.  Then I added yarn to it to make straps like a backpack.  Finally, I cut strips out of the orange fabric and tied them around each knee and elbow.  I also cut a long one for a belt and for a ninja eye covering thingy.  Overall, the costume looked sweet and everyone loved it cause it was so chessy and bad-ass.  It only took me like 2 hours to put the whole thign together too. [/b] Wink
GOOD LUCK TO WHATEVER YOU CHOOSE! Cheesy

Also, take a look at the movie "Mystery Men" with Ben Stiller.  They have some pretty easy and goofy costumes to there.  Can you tell I like the cheesier things in life??? Cheesy
