Lay Lady Lay - AKA What Do to with Yarn Remnants (Img Hvy)
«
on:
March 01, 2009 08:22:02 AM »
So about last December, I finished up two knitting projects and STILL had some yarn leftover, but not enough to make a third project, and I didn't want to buy another skein. Then I remembered I had also had the same problem when I made the fetching gloves. Since then I'd always wanted to make a "painting" of sorts with yarn remnants, and when I saw this challenge, I decided to do it.
So Bob Dylan's "Lay, Lady, Lay" is one of my favorite songs of his, though there are tons of other favorites. (You can listen to it
here
--once you get to the page, click where it says "Listen" on the left hand side.) One line from it I especially like is: "Whatever colors you have in your mind/I'll show them to you and you'll see them shine."
Which led to this:
All of the colored areas are indeed composed of yarn.
based from this classic Dylan poster:
Here are some close-ups:
And some in progress pics, going backwards in time:
It took me about a week to complete, but the task was very therapeutic. And sticky. But mostly therapeutic. It's about the size of half a normal sized foam core board--I think it's like ten by twenty inches. It was bowed in the middle when I finished it, but I have stacked books on it in the middle, hoping to straighten it out a bit at least.

Fabuloso! Love Dylan, though I'm a Tambourine Man girl myself. This looks very labour intensive, what a fabulous idea.

OH my! That is amazing. When I read the title of the thread, I was expecting a "big brass bed." But this is even better. You have captured the look of the original, including Dylan's face. Love it!

This is outstanding! I love SOOOO MUCH! It works SO well with yarn!
My fav. lyrics from Lay Lady Lay are :
Why wait any longer for the world to begin
You can have your cake and eat it too
Why wait any longer for the one you love
When he's standing in front of you
AHhhhhhh Bob Dylan!
