Any news on the world of craft and craft-related resources in Davis and/or Sacramento? I will be moving to Davis this summer (for graduate school, yes!) and will be in dire need of some colorful craft lovin' to combat student stress syndrome.

It sounds like you're heading to UC Davis. There's a great on-campus craft center that offers a variety of classes. Membership grants open studio time and access to all kinds of handy equipment. Check out the center's site here: http://campusrecreation.ucdavis.edu/crafts/studio.php#fees

Have fun!  Smiley

Nice. Thanks! I was starting to think that there was nobody out there representing the crafty side of Davis. Especially since I'm in Portland now, which has a very active craft community.

German Chocolate is right, the UC Davis Craft Center is great! I live in Davis, and I started volunteering there the minute I moved here--I met a bunch of great people. Then I started teaching there! Now, I'm more loosely affiliated, but there's a great sense of community there. There are also a few good art galleries in Davis. One, the Natsoulas Gallery puts on some different events throughout the year--just last weekend a Clay Conference and also a Beat Conference in the Winter.

Sacramento is also not far, and there's an active art scene there, as well as San Francisco, of course, not too far away. Congrats on grad school! I hope you like Davis!

there's several places that i remember from my time at ucd.  in downtown davis, there's A Better Place to Bead and there's In Sheep's Clothing.  i volunteered at the craft center too, and they can definitely tell you a lot of different local resources.

Thanks! It's good to know that craftiness can survive the hot hot summers in Davis.

If you sell on Etsy there's a street team in the Sac area called SactoMetro. You can find them in Google groups.
