It suddenly got cold. I had no mittens. I have yarn. I knit. I now have fingerless mits for driving.

Can't out smart the webcam to give me a delay to get both hands up so you only get a one mit shot.
I had gotten the yarn in Nov of 07 (uh, yikes!) in a handspun swap. No, it's not hand spun, it was a reclaimed sweater dyed with koolaid. No real pattern for the mits, I just made long cuffs, added the thumbs, then knit till I was out of yarn.
And speaking of thumbs and running out of yarn....
to make sure I didn't run out, I knit both at the same time on 2 circs. Then after knitting about an inch above where I wanted the thumbs to be, I started kitting the thumbs. This involved splitting the ball evenly, knitting the thumbs at the same time from the yarn coming off the rest of the mits. It was quite the mess of yarn and confusing to anyone who happened to look at it. Gratefully, the thumbs went quick.

And this picture is pretty darn true to life colorwise! In a perfect world they would be an inch longer but they get lots of use anyway!

ha! i'm glad i'm not the only one who gets into these ridiculous multi-needle situations. a practical motivation, and yet...

cute mitties, too. red and aqua is my long-running favourite colour combination.

Haha that does look like it was complicated! They turned out quite well, though. I love the colour combination, looks just like my first kool-aid experiment!

It is koolaid dye! It was a dye experiment from a swap partner.
