can't paint? Try a ribbon wall!

My fiance and I wanted to do something to add some color to our plain white rented walls in our bedroom. We have a loose asian theme happening and he had saved all these asian pictures from a history of asian art class a few years back, which formerly were used as flash cards. So we put some of them on origami paper backgrounds, printed out some additional pictures of prints from art.com and bought a bunch of red ribbon. I also got some of those sticky photo squares found in the scrapbooking aisle at Joann. So, I got a whole bunch of different widths of ribbon, all of it red, and went crazy making criss cross lines on the walls. At many of the intersection points we used the photo squares to put up the small pictures. We are moving in a few months, so it will all come down then, but its a nice way to add color for now.

thats a really great idea! in some ways, i think it adds more fun to the room than paint ever could.

Thanks! We were inspired by a local asian restaurant that just opened, and the walls are this nifty green color with deep red stripes going at slight angles to each other. If we were allowed to paint we probably would have painted our wall the same color green before putting ribbon up. It was my fiances idea to actually have the ribbons cross and use the pictures, and I think it turned out even nicer

Yes, I just used plain gold tacks. I was going to use sticky tack or something less visable, but you can actually hardly tell the tacks are there. I suppose you could buy tacks in the same color as your ribbon. It actually only took me about 2 hours to do the whole large wall, I just tacked the ribbon at the top of the wall, let the roll drop and went down to the floor to adjust the bottom, then tacked it and cut it off at the baseboard.
