My boyfriend and I are throwing an oscar party with a nominee themed menu as well.

We came up with "HOHO's and a bottle of Rum"  (Yo Ho Ho and a bottle of rum)  The Last Ham on Rye ,  Peanuts of the Carob bean (chocolate covered peanuts), Lord of the Onion Rings, Cold Noodle Mountain....

It's a work in progress, and not a very put together menu other than the titles.....I'll be checking back here for more ideas!! Grin

Isn't there somekind of drink called Blue Lagoon? Not too sure, Vodka and Blue Raspberry jello would work, not too sure of the taste though  Huh

For Seabisut some type of sea food stuffed appetizers?

I don't know many ideas but the whole party thing sounds like fun!

For the jello (finding nemo) maybe make fishie jello jigglers, those things are always fun! (cuz jello can make watermelon wiggle!)

 Maybe Cold Cuts Mountain

If you like black licorice, those small hard jawbreakers, Pirates "Black Pearl"

  For Monster, monster cookies

for the Last Samurai, cocktails with those funky little swords,

 Have fun!

For Seabiscuit, could you do salmon (or some smoked fish) on crackers?

Best Picture:

Master and Commander:  (Side dish)
Masher and Coriander.  (Mashed potatos seasoned with Coriander and other spices.)

Lost in Translation:  (Dessert)
Lost in Granulation.  (Sugar cookies with frosting and sugar on top.)

Seabiscuit:  (Soup)
Well, this one's easy.  A Sea Biscuit is actually a type of hardtack biscuit or cracker using only water and flour.  Here's a recipe for sea biscuits:
http://www.mariner.org/age/sea_biscuits.html  Make up a batch or two and serve with broth and cheese.

Mystic River:  (Main dish)
Mysteak River.  Make steak.  Even cheap steaks, or fish steaks, or whatever suits your fancy.

Lord of the Rings:  (Side dish)
Gourd of the Rings:  Make squash.

Gees.  I managed an entire three course meal, complete with all four food groups, all out of only the five Best Picture nominees...  I should have one of these parties myself.

Wow, Lothruin...with those ideas, you *should* have your own Oscar party!

It's now less then a week before the party and this is what we've got:

Food (going with finger foods)
- Lord of the Onion Rings
- The Last Samuri Teriyaki Kabobs
- Pirates of the Carib-Bean dip
- In America Apple Crisps
- White Chocolate Cranberry Popcorn (couldn't be a movie event without popcorn!)

Drinks
- Cold Mountain Dew
- Sierra Mystic River
- Captain Jack Sparrow's Coke (coconut rum and coke)
- Finding Nemo Jello Shots (haven't done Jello shots since High School!)

Ahh, now to figure out the decorations and favors! Thanks for all the great suggestions!
