Hey everyone! This is my first post, so please bear with me.  Tongue

For the monsters challenge, I initially thought of the 'Seven Deadly Sins' that made monsters out of humans.
But how to turn that into a needle felted monster? I don't think I could do a full human! Instead, I thought of a monster that would prey upon vain people:

From the front, Vince looks like a normal peacock, however, on his back you see something a bit odd:

A Face?!?

Vince is actually a demon, who will tempt vain humans with his pretty feathers. Those who aren't vain see the face, and run away; but those who only want the feathers to make themselves more beautiful don't see it until its to late! The demon takes the beauty of the person, making itself even more attractive, and leaving a hideous person behind.

This was my first real felting project (I did some small practice pieces before) the main body was needle felted, and the back was a mixture of wet felting and needle felting. Then I added a small amount of embroidery for a few details.I think Vince is pretty cute, but I'd love to hear what you think of him!  Smiley

Also, does he qualify for the challenge? I'm not sure, I'm pretty new to all of this...  Tongue

Thanks everyone, I'm glad that my first topic seems to be going well, and that you like Vince.

@raeraethejetplane : I really liked your Squeek as well! I hope that I will be able to make something with that level of craftship someday soon!  Wink

@BonEsInspired: I'm glad that you like the story, I wasn;t so sure that it made sense to other folks...  Cheesy

@kingfrancebald: All my classes lately seem to have a bit of a surreal theme going on, maybe that's why I made this. Hmm...  Tongue

That's so sweet of you! I am sure you will be able to soon. I'm just learning! In fact I went to my art blog and looked up the date of my first project. I started on December 31st so not even two months! Sketching out what I want to do and breaking everything down into shapes helps a lot. If I am recreating something I work off a reference photo.

You've created, photographed, and posted an entry that exemplifies the theme.
You've included the text "Monster Challenge 09" in your title
and you've post your entry by the 27th of Feb

You're officially in the challenge!
and I just love the thought & story that goes with this.
Beautifully made, and well thought out  Smiley

Thank you very much for the compliment!

@raeraethejetplane: Wow, I thought that you had been doing felting longer! Sketching and reference photos do help a lot though, I know they do when I'm painting. Smiley
