Sugar Eggs!

You've probably seen these before to buy in candy stores or different shops around Easter/Springtime. I used to make them when I was a little kid but they can be a lot of work so up until this year my family stopped making them. They're called either sugar eggs or panoramic eggs because there are little scenes on the inside through the peepholes that unfortunately you cannot see in the pictures. They're completely edible but we've always just kept them as decorations (they're bascially pure sugar so I dont' think they'd be too appetizing). All the decorating is done by hand with cake frosting that hardens except for the duck on top of the smaller egg that I purchased at a cake decorating store.

Those are great! I have a distinct memory of a family friend giving me one of those when I was like 2 or 3. I remember really really wanting to eat it, but my mom said no....
I don't even think I've seen one since then. Cool!

I got egg shaped molds from a craft store but i've never actually seen the sugar eggs already made there. I'll have to look into that. We had to make the sugar mixture and then pack it into the molds and then slide them onto a pan and take the mold off and bake them and then carve out the inside of each side of the egg to be the right shape and have a hole to look through. Then do the inside scene on the half of the egg that has a flat end to stand on and then when that's finished "glue" the two halves together with frosting and decorate the outside.
