Anna Sui Heart detail Skirt

Ok, I tried a short skirt the other day and... decided to give this one a go.  I've just drafted the patterns and this weekend I'll make time to buy some suitable fabric and go for it.

I'll do a muslin first thought.  I don't usually make them, but since I am not sure about the details (I AM about the fitting), I will make sure I cut the definitive fabric correctly, just in case.

Welllll... I started this in AHEM! May of last year... I finished it yesterday! (things happen, you know...)  Although the craftmanship is not perfect, I am pleased with the results, and I must say that I have far more respect for Ms Sui now.  It may be a simple design, but the merit is in obtaining the results you want.  At any rate, I think this design have some inherent adorability... I like it even covering my bum!

The basic difference with the original is that I didn't topstitch the tabs on the heart pockets (which I just appliqued, although I strongly suspect the original ones are real pockets, because of the stitching).  Apart from that, I tried to stick to the source as much as possible.  I did something wrong with the waistband, though - it comes up on the sides.  I must improve my drafting.

Looks like you won this challenge!  It turned out cute and wearable and I think everyone gave such good suggestions...

Anna Sui is a marvelous designer known for her simple and classic styles with cute details...the pockets and the topstitching on the original are just fabulous and it is no wonder you like her style!

http://tinyurl.com/laurensewingpattern here - 34 inch waist, no seam allowance. It might be skimping a bit on the a line shape so by all means widen the bottom and alter the sides to fit
