Dust Bunnies

This is my first Fiber friday post! Yay! I, like many other have lurked for quite a while but now I'm here to pounce.
I started spinning last September when I got enlisted to help my co-workers at our state fairs Sheep to Shall. I carded for about 6 hours straight then they taught me to spin since I was there and all and they were my ride home...I've been addicted ever since.

70% Merino 30% Silk
This was my second bobbin that I turned into this...

My first attempt at Weaving.

Core spun Kid mohair
I love love love this yarn. The color is so deep and lovely but it just won't photograph well. I changed the tint to make it a little closer which is why the gold thread looks so orange. Embarrassed

The Dead Snake roving
Merino
My first dye work. I was very unhappy with it before I put it in the microwave after space dying. I said it just looked like a sad dead snake and...it just sort of stuck. I loved it when it was all clean and dry, it's really amazing to see the difference.

Dead Snake Spun up

The beginning of whatever it becomes at this point....I'm thinking a neck ruff.

Nun in a blender
Shetland
Now....I know the name is horrible.......but...My godmother has a friend that's a nun and she's evil. Really. She hates children and is just very cold. I have for as long as I could remember tried to get her to like me...so every christmas when she came to Seattle I'd make her something to try and work my witchy wonders on her. Every year I'd make bigger and better things and she never liked me better. So this year I decided I'd process my own wool and spin her yarn then weave her something out of it....making a long story short bad things happened during the holidays my favorite being that my godmother knowingly fed me beef broth when I haven't had red meat in half my life and I didn't make a big deal about it at the dinner table I just said I wished I didn't get sick and the nun told me to "Just suck it up" Anyone with an allergy or who has been a vegetarian for a while knows you can't just "Suck it up".....so that's where the name comes from and I might just keep the yarn to myself.  Angry

My Precious
Solid Oak Louet circa 1970
My co-workers went in with my mom to buy it for my for my 21st in January. I was speechless. I'm going to paint "One wheel to rule them all and in the darkness twine them" on the outer side of the wheel. we're trying to find elvish translations as well. My co workers were saying I was acting like gollum with my spinning wheel so we made a bunch of LORT/Fiber jokes until that's what we ended up with.

Merino
Being woven right now.

Dust Bunnies on the Bobbin.
Mohair, Shetland, Llama, Alpaca, Merino, a few bags that were unmarked and Angelina
This was another that was hard to photograph but this is actually true to the colors.

Dust Bunnies scarf
I meant for it to be a collar but...I know nothing about knitting...so this happened and I love it.

This has been my explosion of fiber, I'm pushing myself though some projects at the moment so maybe I'll have a few more next week! Can't wait to see everyone else's!

Oh man. Oh man. Oh man. You've reminded me why I need to get into spinning again....

And that certainly is one wheel to rule them all.  Shocked
Also, you should definitely keep the 'nun in a blender' yarn to yourself. Either that, or use it to weave a tapestry saying "suck it up!" Oooh, Burn.

GENIUS!!! rofl

I'm in love with the core spun kid mohair! It's so pretty I don't even know what I'd use it for, but it begs to be used! haha

Beautiful!!

You're first weaving??  I bet you ran before you learned to walk as a baby too!!!

Again, no new yarns from me this week.  Finished a pair of waffle socks and have started another pair with horseshoe cables.

Plan on spinning this weekend though.  With roving very similar to the 'dead snake roving'.  Beautiful colors.

Wow - what an introduction! Your stuff is amazing.

It's just the one from me this week - I keep getting distraced by dyeing.

This is my finest laceweight ever - it's 100g of a lovely merino/silk blend and 800yds. I'm so proud of myself!

Very, very nice Kathleenalice!  Just the right amount of TPI.  That silk just bounces light off it.  I love it!!!
