This lovely frame used to be a mirror, which my old assistant broke. It was gathering dust in the storage room for months, as I didn't have the time and the money to buy glass to replace the broken pieces.

I was desperately in need of an inspiration board, and had some cork lying around from a previous project.  A cutter, a marker, and a few slices later, my new ornate bulletin board was born.

Blogged about it here: http://beadladyangeli.blogspot.com/2009/02/cork-board-cork-board-on-wall-whos.html

What a great idea! I adore it!! Been wanting to put up a cork board in the kitchen, but was just going to have a plain one. Now I am inspired to make it more decorative!

Update: My cork board was featured in a local interior design magazine here in Manila!  Grin

Here's the one I made for my mom... I found a vintage Syroco mirror at an antique flea market for $16. It wasn't a pretty color, so I spraypainted it using Krylon Champagne Brushed Metal paint. She LOVED it. One thing I found is that one layer of cork is not enough, if you're using like, a roll of cork. I put two layers in so that the tacks wouldn't go through the backing.

Thank you again for the inspiration! I'm going to make one for myself now too.  Cheesy

I made my own too, to go with my desk and chair I had spray painted a bright cheery blue.
Got the frame from the thrift store, it was not a mirror though, was a picture with a backing to the frame that was nice and thick, so I ended up only using one layer of cork and it was still OK. Was not super ornate but I enjoy it!

Thanks for the great idea!

Great job on the cork board!
You're not going to believe this but my grandparents had that same frame but it had a mirror.
I saw your board on the front page of craftster and about spit out my coffee. I love that you kept the original gold color.
Now to go bask in nostalgia...
Thank you for the trip down memory lane!!!
