My unusual ingredient was Hemp Seed Oil. Since I frequent the health food store and buy lots of oddball things (according to my family) I had purchased this for some healthy recipe or another (and forgot which one by the time I got home).

I usually soap with the basics: coconut oil, olive oil, palm oil and maybe lard. I throw in some shea or cocoa butter, too. But I really don't get into experimenting with other oils (they just aren't readily available in NW PA).

I received a sample of a lovely Raspberry Patchouli FO that was enough to make up a batch of soap and as I was gathering ingredients I saw the Hemp Seed Oil in my 'frig and just KNEW that it went with Patchouli...and soaped it up (hemp is only part of the total oils in my soap, not 100%). I also felt the soap needed to be swirlie to go with the hippie theme, so I swirled with Red Oxide and Gold Mica (first try with the mica for me).

I wish y'alls could smell this - it is heavenly (IMO). I think I'll be using it for a while as a sachet before using it as soap!

JOY

That looks like some good stuff!  I want to try my hand at soap making one of these days.  It's on my LONG list of new crafts to try, but it's up there pretty high as I think home made soap would make the BEST gifs ever!!

I'm so thankful to have ppl like you and a site like this to help when I do get started!

Hemp seed oil makes a DREAMY bar of soap. It's definitely one of the "stranger" oils out there, which makes it an awesome entry!  Smiley

May I just say that your bar looks A-M-A-Z-I-N-G!  Shocked You must teach me your swirling technique, Master!

I am not a patchoulli fan, but mixed with raspberry, and swirled like that, I just might have to convert. I lurv it!  Smiley

Sounds good! I've never soaped with hemp, it's on "the list!"  I too am not a fan of patchouli by itself, but I used to do a black cherry with patchouli which was pretty good....I think raspberry might be even better!  And love the swirls, very circle-y!
