Since I've been redoing my living room I found I needed a really large, low, square coffee table. I had planned on spending about 80 bucks at Ikea for the one I wanted, but found a $7.00 UGLY one instead...

I believe it had been used in a child's playroom. There was old paint and sticky substances of unknown origin all over it. A bit of elbow grease and a Magic Eraser took most of the gunk off.

I then took Contact paper and drew a swirly tree design on the back. Spent about an hour cutting it out and then stuck it to the poor ugly table.

I coated the entire table with high-gloss black paint, waited for it to dry, peeled off the contact paper, added some lacquer and POOF... not so ugly any longer Smiley

Now it looks pretty in the living room, and as a bonus, gives us a great place to play drunken Uno or scrabble!

I love it.  I rocked it.  I'm now wondering if my tables are 'ugly' yet.

It is an absolutely beautiful table now! What a great idea! I am going to try it on my hand-me-down dressers. You have made me start looking at all my mismatched furniture in a whole new light. Thanks!!! Grin

It seems that different people have an idea of what I am, and what I should be. And then there's me.

This looks awesome!  Did you just paint right over the top of the old finish?  Did you sand it first?  What kind of paint did you use?
