Well, I couldnt hang them over the stupid up and down blinds, Didnt want to get rid of them and needed a headboard. So 4 nails, 20 minutes, two spliced fingers later.....

I love it!!!  It's simple, it's nice and it matches perfectly your color scheme.  I'd adapt your idea if I could find those type even new.  I need a headboard!!  Thanks for the inspiration.

Well I bought mine for $8 a peice at kmart many years ago but they sell longer ones (AKA only need one) around $20 or so. It was so simple to put up, I mean LESS than 30 minutes. If you do try this, Put the blind up put up dots for the spots then put the nails in the holes to mount. Mine have the typical roman shade top but I tucked the top under to hang them so they dont look so window shade ish. Cant wait to see what my best freind says when she visits next week!

I'll have to check my local house store the next time I go but they are probably over priced.  I'm sure your friend will love it.
