I find I've been posting more things to deviantArt than craftster, lately, so I thought I'd share the picture love with you guys.  Wink  Here are a couple shots of the dress and wigs I made for my Soom Beryl (read: silly-expensive-resin-doll)  The dress is based off of 14th century medieval french garments, although I had to change the concept a little because the doll body doesn't squish the way a real person's does.  The seams are hand-finished, and it laces up the front (although I was lazy and just used a needle rather than making eyelets.)

These are after I made the second wig for her, and a friend of mine did a lovely job painting her face.  The shoulder wrap was crocheted out of yarn I got in the december birthday swap (thanks addicted2knitting!) in a free form sort of pattern.  And the extra hand and the beaded labyrinth are actually necklaces I made for a book launch party.

I have been hugely fond of how all this has turned out, so I hope you enjoy!  Smiley  (The rest of the pictures online can be found on my deviantArt, if you're curious.)

What an interesting doll! I really like the dresses you've made. Were they from a pattern, or did you draft them yourself? The wigs totally go with the doll. They're beautiful.

Thank you!

Craftewoman:  The dress isn't from a pattern exactly, since it has to be fitted to the individual figure, but if you're interested in the human version, the woman I learned how to make them from has tutorials online.  I started trying to use this method, and then decided it would be far easier to do a tape over plastic bag mold of the doll's torso (similar to a duct tape dress form) and make pattern pieces from that.

She is stunning and haunting! I adore all the texture she has in her hair and outfit. I've poked around at those ball jointed dolls before and only a few truly appeal to me. This is one of them. I'm jealous. Beautiful job.

she is very cool, and that comes from one BJD girl to another Smiley  I love the newer Soom girls, they have such stunningly beautiful bodies.  There is just something about resin beauties, Older soom girls have rocket boobs that are perfect for the corsetry style costumes, if you're wanting eyelets, look for the ones from the scrapbooking stores, they are the perfect size for the 1/3 range scale Smiley

This is probably a silly question but, did you make the doll, or can you buy them and then paint them? Where do you get them?

It's absolutely amazing, I love it. Are the horns made of poly clay?
Thanks!

This particular doll was bought from a Korean company called Soom, and the horns are resin and came with her.  There are a lot of companies, mostly in asia, that make similar dolls.  If you're looking for an overview, I'd recommend looking at the Den of Angels website, although they do make you get an account before you can browse through the galleries.  Smiley

Wow.  WOw.  I just can't stop looking at her.  I think I have come back to this page 9 times since I first saw it last night.  I spent a few hours on the Soom website, wow again, I have truly never seen anything like it.
I love her wild wig, and the simple but exquisit nature of her dress, and the forlorn, faraway expression on her beautful face.  I really want to know what she is thinking, I know she is a doll, I know it.  But I can't help but feel that I *want* to know what she is thinking ....  and I guess that would be the point of these works of art, as well as the allure.

Like I said, I just can't stop looking at her.  Amazing job with her details.  Congrats on calling her your own.

I am so in love with that second wig, what a beautiful piece!  I have to say, this post is what finally convinced me to get a bjd.  Granted mine isn't quite as spectacular as yours, but still a cutie. Smiley

Just curious, what size is she?

Thank you!  And congrats on your new doll.  Wink

She's Soom's "Super Gem" size, which is about 65 cm tall with her human feet; with the satyr hooves she's a bit closer to 70 cm.
