Details of swap:
Yay scarves! I found this great idea for a traveling scarf swap on Ravelry, and said “hey, we can do that on Craftster!” So, here it is!
Basically, a set amount of people sign up. Everyone will start working on their scarf. Then we send the scarf in a circular fashion to everyone who has signed up. In the end, you will get your original scarf back with 12 different “blocks” from all over the country.
In simple terms: A B and C sign up:
A > B > C > A (finished scarf)
B > C > A > B (finished scarf)
C > A > B > C (finished scarf)
Knitters and crocheters both are welcome to join, as are people with a differing skill levels. If you want to join and can just do garter stitch, or single crochets, that fine. (Knitters: You may have to pick up stitches, but this is very easy. Information can be found here:
http://knitty.com/ISSUEwinter04/FEATwin04TT.htmll) Advanced people can go for something snazzier, like cables or lace. The idea is to get a wild and crazy scarf with different yarns and stitch patterns; something that isn’t uniquely you, made by knitters and crocheters from all over the country.
INFORMATION
-You will have 2 weeks to work on and send out your scarf.
-The first sendouts will be announced after all spaces have been filled.
-Your scarf should be about 3 – 5 inches wide, casting on or chaining anywhere from 25 to 30 stitches.
-You will knit or crochet a 5 inch block onto the scarf, with the result a being a 60 inch scarf. Knitters sending to knitters, please place your live stitches on a stitch marker or piece of scrap yarn. Knitters sending to crocheters, please bind off. Crocheters sending to either, just end off at the end of your row. If you’re sending to a knitter, they will need to pick up the stitches, or a crocheter can just work into your top stitches.
-Please leave all ends unwoven.
-Please make a note of the size of needles/hooks, weight of yarn and the content of the yarn you used. I will send out a form before sendouts that should accompany your scarf.
-All yarn must be worsted weight unless otherwise stated.
-People with pets/smokers: Please wash (or air it out and Febreze it if it contains wool/feltable materials) the scarf before you send it, or knit/crochet in an area away from pet dander or smoke. I know that this can be unrealistic, as my cats are always around me when I’m working, but I’ll do my best to dehair it and Febreze it. If you have extremely severe allergies, please wait until the next round.
-All scarves will be mailed in padded envelopes to reduce cost. Please place your scarf in a plastic baggie inside the envelope in case of weather.
-Having a camera is not a prerequisite, though it would be nice to take pictures before you send and post them in the gallery so people can get a sneak peek at their scarves. If not, just kindly ask the person downstream of you to snap and post.
IMPORTANT: I need you to seriously consider this swap before joining. This is a LONG swap, taking 5 - 6 months. You must be willing to give it your full attention for that full amount of time. Also, you must be financially capable of sending out 12 or so padded envelopes. (Even though it's only around $1.50, sending 12 times can add up.) If you're unsure of ANYTHING, watch the swap and gallery to determine if you want to sign up for the next round. I understand if life gets in your way. I will be willing to extend the sendouts ONE WEEK. The way this swap is formed, having a set of parameters will keep things running smoothly. If you decide to flake, we will hunt you down and kill your firstborn and take all of your yarn. (Kidding…but we do have your address… heehee.)
Signups are on a first come, first serve basis. ONLY 12 ARE ALLOWED. Just think of the madness of having 20 people participate. If the signups close and you didn’t get in, don’t fret or send me evil messages, just wait 5 or so months until the next round. Thanks.
If you want to participate, information to send to organizer:
