Holy crow. The glue is still drying on my shrine but I'm here to post pics!

Here's the story...

BEFORE

A few years ago I bought this hunk of plastic at a thrift shop, I just knew it would make the perfect shrine. I cleaned it up, took the pink stickers off and then let it sit for 2 years.

This year one of my goals is to finish up all those pesky projects that have been sitting unfinished and bust my growing stash. So needless to say this challenge was the perfect way to force me to get my act together.

When my husband's grandmother (a lovely beautiful elegant lady) passed away we bought her house. There were a lot of things left behind when we moved in. A lot of what was left behind was religious stuff like a velvet Jesus painting, rosaries and little funeral/death cards of my husbands family from ages ago.

Some of the items I've used are new (the candy skulls which were a giveaway from my work) and some are those small things left behind, like the little Madonna.

That beautiful girl at the top is my granny-in-law.

The handsome guy at the top is my hubbys grandfather

I'm pretty sure that fuzzy stuff is a bit of dried edelweiss we found when we moved in. It's soooo funky looking Smiley

Here it is all closed up.

I loved this project and I'm thrilled that I now have a little spot to honour our family Smiley

Knickertwist, that is awesome!  I heart skeletons/skulls.

I'll keep this open for entries until tomorrow at noon (Saturday, the 14th), and then I'll get the voting set up.

The entries are all fabulous so far!  maybe we'll get a couple more tonight?

I've got mine almost done! This happened around finals for me, so I've had to juggle it a great deal. Smiley

Knickertwist-- the contrast between your "before" and "after" shots is fantastic!   Grin  (and the finished shrine is pretty darn cool, too!)  Wink

knickertwist, that shrine is very cool. Reminds me of an alter shrine I saw in a home in Peru. The family puts the actual skulls of their ancestors on shelf and then a bunch of other stuff below. I'll have to see if I can find a photo to post here so you can see what I'm talking about.
