So I was at the dollar store yesterday and I saw these:

They're toggle-style clasps used for jewellery making.  8 clasps for $1.00.  I realized they'd be perfect for making stitch markers!

So I bought 2 packs of these beads as well ($1.00 each):

Here's the finished product.  8 stitch markers for $3 - with beads leftover.

For anyone who doesn't knit - those are mostly short-forms used in knitting pattern-writing.  Any beads would work (the dollar store had some glass beads that had nice weight to them), but I thought the letters were cute.  Wire might have been nice to string them up (except for the possibility of snagging), but I just used embroidery floss.

Easy peasy!   Grin

That is just darling ... and so convenient.  I may need some of these.

This is seriously intelligent - for a knitter who gets easily confused (like me) there's nothing like brightly coloured labels to keep you on track, hah... Brilliant!

These are really cute. I have a question tho.....How do you hook them around the stitch you are marking? My stitch markers open to wrap around the stitch and then remove later. Since these don't open, what holds them to the stitch?

I crochet so maybe you use them differently to knit.  Huh

sometimes in knitting, you want to mark a point in the row, not a specific stitch, like working a sweater in the round, you might mark at the beginning and halfway to seperate front and back. You put these on the needles, and move them when you get to that point in the row. So to remove you just knit to that point and can slip it off the needle.
