I'm a long time lurker of a couple years actually.. So I've finally decided to post something up here.

They're really easy to make, and really cheap. Mostly made out of things from around the house. My ears are 1/2" (only :,[) so instead of the tampon end you might need to improvise.

You'll need:
2 Tampons (I use the compak kind), 2 tiny rubber bands, super glue, scissors, a lighter, and gems/buttons/whatnot.

Step 1: pull out the applicator stick from the tampon. Cut a 1 inch piece off the end.

Step 2: Put heat against the end that was cut with the scissors. This is to smooth out jagged edges.

They should look like this:

Step 3: Put super glue around the opposite end. Have your gem or button face-down and place the glue end to the back of the gem/button. Hold for 30 seconds and then let dry for 15 minutes.

Finally: Stick them through your ears and place the rubber band on the back to prevent them from falling out!

This is such a great idea!  I have been thinking of making them from polymer clay, but then read where that can be toxic, and since the baked clay is slightly porous, can harbor bacteria.  Now I am thinking I could combine the two - inserting the clay into the tube....

A Burger King straw should work.. Once my 0's fell out and I used one, but good luck getting something to stay glued to that. :]

You can use some Sculpey colored clay. Some colors are toxic and contain lead, so I suggest internet research first to find out which ones would be safe.

you could always fill up the straw with clay, or paper or tissue, and glue it shut then glue the gem on.
