This was a piece I made for my textile art course way back when in September. Our project was on vessels, so I chose to do eggs and embryos and other such fun things. I'm into images of female power in a big way, and fertility really comes into that for me. I'm not saying that it's womans only job to have babies, and that that's the only thing that makes women powerful- I just adore the imagery.

Bird Embryo

Frog Spawn

Human Embryo (I should've stranded the thread more on this one and I think I will redo it)

Elephant Foetus

Felting the eggs (I did one half, then the other, then I embroidered on one, before stuffing them and sewing them up.)

Here's some back up work (The drawings in the background)

And a machine embroidered felt elephant foetus.

It was fun!

Take me out 2 the black Tell them I aint comin back

Beautifully conceived & executed.
and felt is a perfect medium for this.
