Hi!!  We are crafting goodies for the children at the NIH hospital.  These kids come from around the country to receive medical care and some have long extended stays for several years.  The program that they have in place at the NIH hospital is called Thoughtful Treasures in which each child receives a small present in his mailbox at the hospital for each day of his stay.  It is a way to give the child something to look forward to during a difficult time in his/her life. This is quite a huge undertaking since they ask for contributions of 75 like items.  The good thing is that they can be anything from a lollipop to a stuffed animal to a card to a pillow.

Some of you might remember that I started a pillow sewing group with my coworkers as  a tribute to my dad and we used to sew pillows for Bears, Books, and Bonnets.

These pillows were part of a cancer care package that was given to the NIH children.  When BBB relocated to FL I decided to directly contribute these pillows to the NIH kids.  We have received lots of postitive messages that the kids really enjoy receiving these.

Thanks to several craftsters we have a lot of pillow blanks that we are still stuffing and sewing, but we are also making other goodies.  So if there is something easy like a bookmark, tiny amigurumi, card, etc. that can be made it would be appreciated.  Maybe we could kinda organize it so that we got 75 of them.  Our group already has 30 paper bookmarks made if that helps.  Some other things that would be loved are: handmade coloring books, small toys (can get a bag from the dollar store), hard candy, etc.

The other thing that the hospital is grateful to receive is hotel toiletries since the parents are also housed as well and some forget to pack these items and arrive with nothing.  You can imagine how stressed out they must be.  So toothbrushes, soaps, etc.  are also very much appreciated.

If you would like to help, please let me know.  Thank you for considering this wonderful charity.

Decided to post some of the pillows we just donated here since the other organization that we were sewing for (BBB) is no longer in town.
This is a batch of 75 pillows....we were able to donate 200+ pillows last year and this is our second batch this year.

There are many ways to donate to these kids who could use a little something to brighten up their day!  I hope some of you will join in or find a local hospital that needs your help!

Hi Kittykill!!  You can send anytime since we do this one year round.  The only thing is that we need 75 like items.  ATM about the only thing we are doing is pillows and bookmarks, but if you can get together with a friend do make 75 of something else that would be great!  The reason is that they have 50 beds for the kids and they like to have the extras for their siblings.  The pillows are made by cutting two 7 inch by 10 inch pieces, face right sides together, and sew with .25 seam allowance centering a 3" opening.

It's been a while, but I wanted to let everyone know that our project is still going strong!

We got a very generous boost a month ago from Kammabeary who donated many wonderful cottons to us.  Here is a batch of 75 pillows made with some of her fabrics mixed in with some others. Now that Lana is older she is helping to sew the pillow blanks!  Smiley

Thank you Kammabeary!
