Dog Coat + tutorial

This is a coat I made for my dog! Enjoy...

EDIT~*~*~ Tutorial!

Cut out a shape that is right for your dog - you can make a pattern with fabric you don't wan't and fit it to your dog. Then trace the shape and cut one out of fabric and one out of fleece.



Then put wrong sides together and sew 3/8 " seam around the the edges



Then for mine I did a binding around the edges to get a clean look.
Get another fabric that you like and cut pieces that are the same size (about 1 inch) wide and however long you need it. You can cut shorter pieces and sew them together to make one long strand.

To see finished product go to very top and look at my dogs modeling it.  

Then sew velcro where it will be on the dogs neck...

then you can sew a long ribbon on to keep it pretty - and easy for you and your dog!

LOL you crack me up.  That is absolutely adorable!  I love the fabric and colors!  The design looks comfortable for them (except the nice big doggie)  Fabu!

Those are super cute. Your first dog looks so much like my dog I had to do a double take. Very cute. You should post a tutorial so my dog can be as fashionable.

After seeing this I had to try it out myself! here is what turned out-i decided to do one side in a vinyl coated pink gingham so that she's stay dry and I could wipe my other dogs drool off her easily (niiiiice. hehe ), the inside is fleece. I've made it that that it is reversible and can be worn either way.

I sort of made a pattern up as I went along. I got a huge piece of paper and, using my dog's measurements, drew out a rouge coat shape and worked from that. I kept trying it on her and adjusting it to size before sewing the actual material one...

That's awesome! I can't tell cause it's so dark... is it supposed to be an elvis type jacket?? I love it!

Just an FYI some breeds have more curved rumps. What you can do to help the coat fit is turn it inside out/upside down, fold it in half, and sew a curve, so when you turn it back over and invert it you get a fitted curve along their rump.
