I had a few used spools that I had kept and I wanted to make them more interesting for my cat.  So, I glued in some feathers (after I wrapped the ends together with thread) into the ends of the spool and then glued the Sugar and Cream (is that right?) type yarn around the outside.  I think it would be fun to continue experimenting with this little recycling project.

Great idea!!!  I have tons of old spools hangin around...I don't have a cat, but my father in law has the goofiest cat, and I know she'll love these!

Do the feathers seem to stay in well?

I can tell you, Fall is composed of

1 part dead fish smell
1 part wet leaves
1 part arctic chilled air (not winter chilled variety)
2 parts crunchy walking
a pinch very cold rain
some apples you picked yourself
a few very still moments
a good deal of inner reflection

I think if you used a strong glue, they would stay.  You just have to glob it inside the spool.  But, in case it didn't hold, I wrapped all the feather tips together (kinda like how you would wrap a fishing lure).

Oh man kitties will love that toy!  Once I run out of some thread I'm going to do that for sure... all the toys with feathers on them that my kitties have end up getting chewed off, but they still love em Smiley

Don't know how well it would work but you guys could try putting some cat nip in there then sew/glue whatever some felt or fabric on the ends. Hmm don't have any cats my self but my parents still have our old cat maybe I'll make her one and send it up home.

That's a great idea! I'll have to make a couple for my cat for Christmas.
