This is a scarf knitted in binary code. I took the html source code from the Ravelry homepage and converted it to binary (using an ascii to binary converter). I then translated that into knitting by using purl stitches for zeros and knit stitches for ones.* It's kinda like touching the website Smiley.
This is intended to be a piece of the installation I am making for my undergraduate thesis.





Note: on the wrong side, I had to reverse this. I purled for the ones and knitted for the zeros so that it would all be readable from the same side.

That's a really brilliant idea. It makes the otherwise abstract code very tactile almost bringing life to the stagnancy of programming. Beautiful!

I love it! I just recently learned how to read and count in binary, so it's awesome to see a practical application! LOL. My fiancee is just as geeky as I am, so I may borrow this pattern to knit him a repeating binary "I love you" scarf. BTW, this ROCKS!
