Rockin' the baubles all around town...

So, I have several yards of this great IKEA tree print fabric that a fellow craftster was kind enough to purchase for me and I sent her the money back...no IKEA near me where I live, have to drive about 2 hours to get to one  Undecided

LOVE it so much, and finaly decided to make something with it...a reversible tote bag!

I ♥ trees Smiley  Made a large pocket on the outside, Stitch Witchery-ied down the top hem for a great seamless look on it.

Inside with pockets and a Velcro wallet.

Pockets on the other side.  Thought it would be cool to layer pockets like this, and it looks great!

Decorative top stitching.

Velcro wallet...made in lieu of a snap wallet, same style, different closure.  I like how it looks like a tree with the trunk and the top folded over it Smiley

I forgot to take a picture of this flipped the other way around, but basically the green is on the outside with the contrasting pockets.

The interfacing used in this is on all 4 pieces of the bag, so it has a SUPER durable feel and stands up by itself LOL!

Comments welcome  Wink

this is gorgeous and i wish it was mine!

the closet ikea to me is about 1.5 hours away, such a tease that you can view fabric online but not buy it Sad

i've only used sew-in interfacing (which i pre-wash so it shrinks accordingly)
what type of fusible interfacing did you use and did you pre-shrink it?

I know, it TOTALLY sucks you can't buy it online!  I used craft fuse, Pellon brand, in this tote.  Because it is fusible I don't think I can wash it at all before use else the fusible will stick to iteself... Huh  I have not gotten into making clothes so I have not worked with sew-in interfacing before, I would not have known to wash it so I will sock away that comment in my head for the future  Wink

I. Love. This. Bag. Closest Ikea to me is about an hour, but I don't want to brave Houston traffic and waste so much gasoline for some (incredibly amazing) fabric...
But anyway, back to the bag, which is so so cool. I love big bags, and this one looks just perfect. Great job!

Thank you all for your great comments Smiley

Yeah, I feel the pain of IKEA being so far away...and I didn't know they sold fabric until very recently either!!  I was SO thrilled to see what great fabric they had too!  I think all of it is home decor weight, think lightweight canvas, so very durable and great for totes and purses of all types!

oh wow that is nice, I've never worked with lightweight canvas before, definitely a job for a sewing machine!  I use pellon brand sew-in interfacing.  It really does not shrink that much, perhaps 1/4 inch, maybe a wee bit more.  I just hand wash it in a sink of warm (kinda hot but not too hot) water, leave it in the water until the water cools to room temp, and then hang up over my shower bar to drip dry.  I try to blot off as much excess water as I can with a towel first.
