I can find acrylic yarn (for amigurumi projects) but not a very good selection of colors. I am a student at UBC. I've gone to a few stores but they mostly carry the fancier yarns and wools that aren't good to use for amigurumi. These stores told me to go to places like Zellers and Micheals(the one in Burnaby on Marine Way) and they have some but a poor selection. Where can I find a good selection? I am willing to go to Coquitlam, Surrey and posably to North Van so don't worry about where these places are located. Please leave the address and phone number if posable.

unfortunately, zellers and micheals are probably your best bets. independent yarn stores tend to carry the higher end yarns, so they won't have much, and while walmart has some, they've drastically cut back their craft departments.

you didn't say which zellers you went to, so it might just be that the location had a smaller selection than some. i remember the oakridge store being kind of crappy when i lived near it a few years ago, and i never tried metrotown (the two closest to vancouver by transit!) the zellers in north delta has filled out their shelves a lot more in the past few years, so others may have too.

if worst comes to worst, i'd suggest a shopping trip down to bellingham to check out walmart and joanns. we just don't have the same selection here since you can't get carons in canada. the border isn't too bad at all if you go later in the evening, joanns is open til 9 and walmart is 24hrs, so i try to time it so that i'll get to bellingham around 8ish.

Thanks for the information. The Zellers I went to was the Metrotown one. I would try the Bellingham thing but I can't drive and no one I know here drives. Being a student Im what they call "diet international" being from the US and the east coast so my parents aren't available for there sort of things. So if you could suggest one Zellers or something to be better then others would help no matter where it is as long as i can get there by transit.

i know that the zellers in scottsdale mall, which is in north delta, at 72nd and scott road, has a decent selection. however, if i were you, i'd probably try ordering online instead, because it's not the most transit accessible part of surrey/north delta (it takes forever by bus!) and if you order online, you'd be able to order caron if you wanted, and they tend to have a larger colour selection.

it might be worth looking to see if you can find a group wanting to take a day trip down to bellingham, just for the fun of it! try putting up signs around campus or something.

Micheals has almost nothing but acrylic yarn, so there should be some selection there.   The one in Park Royal is pretty easy to get to by transit.

There's also Homecraft Importers on 4th.... but I haven't been there in ages, so not sure what they carry: http://www.homecraftimporters.ca/
