So, I'm trying to sew with my machine more, but it isn't cooperating. I am fairly certain that I am threading it properly, but about half the time when I start sewing it just unthreads itself. The thread doesn't break, it just comes out of the needle. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

Pull out a longer tail of thread
Hang on to it for the first few stitches
Make suyre the thread isn't getting caught on the edge of the spool.

Thanks for your advice. I'd like to say it worked, bt my machine decided to not work at all now. I'm going to take it to the repair shop, and hopefully I'll not lose my thread once it gets back.
