So, last year I made myself a bookbag for school. It was disproportionate, hastily made, and kind of ugly. Sadly I didn't like it enough for pictures, so you just try to picture an ugly, crap-made bag. I was discouraged, but used it for about six months before it started to fall apart. Sad Sad . Still, I liked having a bag I made, and using a retail backpack made me feel boring.

Fate smiled on me, and my clone-bag started tearing on the bottom. Terrified of it ripping and all of my stuff falling down the stairs during passing-time rush.. I set about making BAG THE II!

The bag:

The back: (Straps read: LIZMAT and Liz Mat Sews, in a blatant tribute to MEEEE)

The Pockets:

The Big:

The Zipper:

(IT COULD EAT YOU FOR BREAKFAST!)

Oblig. Action Shoooot:

Needless to say, I'm really proud. I didn't know I could produce such a quality product.. like, I rocked my own pants off. I don't mean to seem too into myself.. but it's a really huuge accomplishment for me. (Also everyone talks about it at school, and that is what matters in life)

LOTS OF LOVE,
LIZMAT

Okay so once again I am completely redoing my pictures. Got tired of photobucket, the only reason I used it was for here so I decided I will just use Craftster's photo uploader. So while I am switching over my photo links will be broken. Message me if there is a post you would like the pics for.

Fantastic! Thank you for the link to the zippers.

If you guys love target as much as I do, you will notice they are now selling backpacks that look kinda like this (monochromaticp, nylon material). Only they dont have awesome giant zippers and lots of useful pockets. Sometimes it irks me a bit to see something that would be easy to make in a store...

Great bag! The zipper is monstrous and awesome, I love it. What's the inside like? Just one big compartment? What kinds of fabric?

Can you tell I'm planning on making my own already? lol

amazing! i went down the handmade backpack route once, it was not a great success. those guys are hard! be careful with that big zipper, too, i had a storebought backpack that had one and it caught the webby part of my hand once, a few months ago, and i still have a mark!

That's awesome, and I have a handful of those Organization XIII zippers lying around I didn't know what to do with. They look so cool like that! I might have to use one...

That is wonderful!  I love the zipper and all the pockets are great!  The straps look great too.  I've been planning to make a book bag for my daughter who will start school this coming year.  I couldn't find a pattern for a bag like that to save my life.  Did you use a pattern, or just wing it?  I was starting to give up on the project, but you have given me incentive to at least try it.

Holy craaap. I'm having rage blackouts from jealousy of your backpack!

I have the same issue with retail backpacks, but I'm too scared to make one myself. I think, now, armed with a gigantic zipper, I have my new weekend project
