Hi! and sorry for being slightly off topic.

I am attending a conference with a mafia theme, and would like to dress accordingly.  A few things though, I don't know what female mafia people (what are they called?) wear, and it still needs to look 'business casual', so not costume-y.  I've tried googling a bit, but keep on getting 'sexy' halloween costumes, which is totally not the look I'm going for.

I'm really stumped, but I'll have a few free days to go visit the fabric store and sew, sew, sew before I go.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated!

Hm. A cocktail dress? That's what I think when I think female mafia member, anyway. Or you could wear a feminine version of the male garb - kind of like this or this. (Except less "sexy", maybe.) Tongue Just a suit jacket, vest, skirt/pants, tie and cool hat.

I apologize if the preceding post contained too many smilies.

A moll!  I think.  Anyway...you could always try watching the Godfather to get some ideas, but when I think of females related to the mafia I think of one of two things:  a pencil skirt and matching vest, with a white blouse underneath (pinstripe skirt and vest, maybe?), and a fedora--an image which I'm fairly sure has more to do with those Halloween costumes.  Or else a retro/vintage inspired dress with a full skirt.  Something like a shirtwaist, but with small, feminine sleeves.  A take on either of which could still be business casual.  The trick is not to look trashy.  Wear hose and closed-toe shoes, and don't go overboard on your makeup, and I think you could look very nice, while still fitting into the theme.

Out of curiosity, is the conference for work?  And if so, where on earth do you work, and are they hiring?  (JK, but themed conferences sound way preferable to the sort I attend!)
