i finished! now i need advice! SOCK it to me!

first i apologize for the crap joke.

secondly,
i just finished a pair of socks, my first pair, from the knitty pattern, monkey.


as thin yarn has a tendency to do, at one point in the second sock i ended up with a hopeless tangle, and i cut the yarn and joined it once i had untangled it.

but stupidly, i did this in the sole of the sock.


and now i have a knot on the bottom of my foot.  i had the ends weaved in before, but that was even more annoying - it was creating a little lump.  and i'm super duper conscious of it.  it may drive me mad.

so here's my thought... could i start at the side seam and basically weave through that row of stitches?  and weave the ends in on the ends?  does that make sense?  i don't imagine this is a thing that's done a lot, since it seems sorta dangerous, but this is my first pair of socks, and i'd love it if they weren't lumpy.

any ideas?

Sure, you can think of it as an afterthought heel (google that if you want more detail than I'm going to get into here).

Take a small needle, smaller than you knitted the sock on if possible (it will make life easier), and pick up the stitches in the row above the one with the break. Do the same for the row after. Undo/cut your knot, and unravel the row that is broken to the edges of the sole. Take a length of yarn at least three times the width of your sole (I generally use four times plus a bit, I'm always afraid of running out) and kitchener/graft the row back in place. Then just weave the ends in.

I think alpaca felts (I generally don't use animal fibers so I don't pay attention to their properties) so eventually any lumpiness you might feel on the sides of your foot should smooth out.
