i made this a while ago and love it, and just discovered this site so thought i'd do a first post. this is made from a felted thrift store JCrew sweater, lined with a thrift store green silk blouse (hard to see in the pics), and then I needle felted the design on the top. I've gotten lots of compliments at stores when people have seen it. it's really a prototype as there are certainly things I'd do differently next time.  After this project, I had plans and sweaters/yarn for a million more but haven't had the time. this site is so inspiring!

needle felting is pretty easy but you've got to get FELTING NEEDLES. i think the ones i got are from Fiber Trends, got them at my LYS. The brown part is a 100% wool sweater that I felted in the washing machine. Once felted, you can cut up the sweater any way you want and the ends don't fray. I just sewed up the sides w/ some mohair yarn then did my needle felting with some yarn. The yellow part is a light weight wool that I used as is. the green is Brown Sheep Lamb's Pride Bulky that I kinda took apart. with needle felting, you basically push the yarn into the fabric with these wicked sharp, cerrated felting needles. you poke poke poke until the yarn starts to "stick" to the felted material.  i used a block of thick foam behind the material because you do really have to jab the needles all the way thru. you end up pushing the fibers from the yarn into the felted sweater material. If you look at the last photo you can kind of see where the green came thru. i'm not sure if i'm making sense. it's a really fun process.

Are the pictures gone now?  With the advent of the "felting" area some old hidden items are comng to light.  Would enjoy seeing this.  Thanks.
