Mine was $5.26 ea. I used those small stiff mailers from the PO. Maybe I'll do something different next time.

That's outrageous

The supplies at the post office is rather spendy   If you're interested in sending them in stiff mailers, I think you might be able to get by with sandwiching the chunky house between some stiff cardboard and mailing them

Yikes.  That would explain the expensive postage   For regular priority mail envelopes, they calculate the postage based on weight and destination zone you're shipping to.  If you have to ship small things via priority mail, my fav options are either the

Flat rate priority envelope @ $4.80

CraftyMcCrafterson, I put my little houses in a standard size card (one of the blank kind that they sell in craft stores) and mailed it with a regular stamp. They weren't extra chunky, but they did have metal bits on them, and one had a pretty fat button attached. Since the houses are sturdy enough, I really didn't worry with them getting bent or folded. I have always mailed atc's like this, and have never had any problems with them not getting delivered. An added bonus in sending this way is that if you are mailing internationally, you won't need to fill out customs forms.

I'm a paranoid mailer and usually use bubble mailers. This time I used 9x6 inch ones and they cost $1.34 each.

Ditto on the paranoia...which is why I bubble wrapped the items

It probably has something to do with the fact my postal worker tends to fold my mail before shoving them in my mailbox
