Used to live in "B-LO" area, currently going to school in Ohio.  As for Thrift etc.  I personally enjoy the basics...Goodwill and Salvation Army.  But as most people know the place to shop if you've got some cash is on Elmwood in Buffalo.  Yes you can find some deals etc., but some of it's upscale.  For vintage finds your first place to start at is obviously Don's Apparel.  Best of Luck!

I just moved back to the WNY area and am looking, looking, looking. I frequent the Amvets that is out by the galleria but that is about it. Where is there an AC Moore? And any other suggestions?

AC Moore is in the back of the Target plaza on the Blvd. There is also a location in Hamburg near the McKinley mall area. I like the new amvets by the galleria - they have some nice stuff there  Grin

Welcome back to Buffalo!

Salvation Army in Tonawanda, Niagara Falls.
GoodWill in Niagara Falls (I HATE this store, there is never anything good)
Joanne etc - there's one near McKinley Mall in Hamburg (the best Joannes locally) and one on Niagara Falls BLVD in Amherst (same plaza as Swiss Chalet and Outback)
There's a Joanne's in Niagara Falls too, but I'm not crazy about it.
AC Moore in Amherst(Best Buy/Target Plaza off of Niagara Falls Blvd) and AC Moore in Hamburg (Near Joanne's Etc)
Then you have the independant yarn/fabric stores. Daft Dames in Akron, Ravenlore Yarn in Tonawanda(they have knitting classes on Wednesday) Aurora Sewing Center(E. Aurora and Clarence locations)...
Also there is an upscale yarn shop across the street from the E. Aurora location... they're pricey but have beautiful yarns...
I wish odds n' ends and pleasures and pastimes were still around. I need some really cheap 100% wool yarn and can't find any.

Reeeallly? I'm going to have to check that out.

Have you gone to that fabric warehouse on Transit? I've wanted to check it out, but don't know if it's worth the time.

Where exactly is Ravenlore Yarn in Tonawanda?  I've never heard of it.

There's another yarn shop called Yarn It All on Campbell Blvd in Pendleton (near Lockport). They have a lot of specials going on each day and workshops/classes on certain days of the month too.

It might be a bit far for you actual Buffalonians, but I'm from Fredonia originally and there is a craft store out on Rt. 20 and Roberts Road called the Art Trunk.  There is also a knitting store in downtown Brocton.  Also, there is a sort-of new consignment shop in downtown Fredonia, and a Sal Army on Rt. 5 in Dunkirk if you're thinking of making the drive.

A friend of mine went into "Fabric Warehouse" on Transit Road and it was more upholstery and interior design fabrics.  While the prices were reasonable for that, she said wasn't really a lot in the terms of fabric for clothing and the like.
