So a girl I work with asked me to make a baby blanket for her sister. We took a look at some ideas and she really liked the woven effect of the Checkmate baby blanket from the lionbrand website. So I made a few alterations (added a row, shrunk the whole thing) and this is what I got. It is just about 28 inches square.

I also made a coordinated hat of the scraps.

Here is a close up:

The colors are all Vana's Choice and Vanna's choice baby: black, chocolate cake (baby), beige, honey, dusty rose and antique rose.

While a lot of fun the amount of color changes were INSANE. I do think I will make another of these, full size and for me.

Hope you enjoy! Any comments/criticism (good or bad) would be appreciated!

This is a work of fiction.  All the characters in it, human and otherwise, are imaginary, excepting only certain of the fairy folk, whom it might be unwise to offend by casting doubts on their existence.  Or lack thereof.~Neil Gaiman

That's lovely! I really like the colours - a bit of a move away from the usual pastel baby colours. Fantastic job.

Crocheting is like prostitution.  First you do it for love, and then for a few close friends, and then for money.  Maybe that is why they call us Hookers?

Thank you all! I loved that she wanted to do some of the brighter colors, it made the project a lot of fun. I'm really into using bright unexpected colors for baby blankets. I can only deal with so many pastels.
