I made these flowers as a decoration for my bedroom. They take up the wall over my bed. Now that they are done, I want to add a few more, it looks a bit empty.

First, i used wire to make a frame for each flower.

Then, i paper mache-ed each one, with strips of newspaper and a flour/water mix. It took at least 2-3 coats on each flower to make them thich enough.

Then I sealed each one with Mod-podge. This prevents mold (one did get moldy while waiting to dry, but the mod podge seemed to halt this) and also gives a better surface for painting.

Paint flowers with happy colors of your choice. I used about 2 coats of solid colors, then for the top coat i used multiple colors blended together. I am partial to the Folk Art metallic colors, since they give a nice shiny texture.

Finish with mod podge.

I used small pieces of wire that i punched through the paper to hook on the wire insides, then looped these around and hung on nails to mount.

enjoy!

While i was making these, Boyfriend Donny said "make a tulip make a tulip!"
Well the tulip didn't come out quite right and i could not figure out how to mount it on a flat wall. It was going to become a bucket, but someone at work suggested that i make a lamp. So, i punched a hole near the bottom and glued in the bottom cap for a socket. I ran the wire through and use a 25 watt iridescent candle bulb- pretty and sparkly! it gives a nice, romantic glow and so far it has not gotten very hot. Hope you like!

hey thanks everyone! i want to make two more flowers, a sort-of daisy and a sort-of bluebonnet. I say sort-of because nothing i make ever resembles anything actually found in nature! But, those flowers took about a month (of course for a week of that i had the flu and did nothing Sad ) and the house was covered with flour and newspapers...

candycanechild - well at some point i am going to have to move out when i go back to school or get a new job or something (I am one of those people who gets bored easily and moves a lot...usually to another state...) and i will be so sad to have to paint over everything back to white, and depending on how far i go i may leave a lot of stuff behind, but i hope that maybe i can find someone who wants to keep the colorful apartment intact and then i can sell them all my stuff i can't take really cheap and they can take over the lease. but anyway, thats probably about 3 years away...
