This is just what I've been looking for!  I just recently got over my fear of zippers and need a nice handmade project bag for my sock knitting.  Thank you so much for taking the time to do this tutorial!

Glad you like it multicrafty.  Keep an eye out - I have another tutorial in the wings that might suit your project nicely!!  It's more of a vertical bag you could plonk down beside you for knitting.  I hope to test the bag today and do a tutorial.

OK!
So I have to say that I DON'T sew.  Pretty much the only thing I've made was a pirate halloween costume that was WELL beyond my skill level.  My mother had to bail me out and make sure that it wouldn't fall apart on me

So, with that being said, I literally ran out to Walmart, bought cheap fabric and made TWO of these!  I wanted them as pencil cases.  They turned out ADORABLE!  I kinda fumbled through the zipper, but overall I think I did a great job.  such an easy pattern.  THANKS!!!!!

This is fantastic. Thanks so much for sharing how you did it! I was at Walmart the other day, looking for cosmetic bag patterns similar to this. But, I couldn't find one I liked. Yours is perfect for what I need!

You did a great job on it too. Smiley

Fantastic MissMatched!!!  You should post a picture.  Perservere with the zippers - once you get the hang of it, they're a piece of cake.  I use a zipper foot to sew the zipper in then I use a blind hem foot to topstitch.  Here's a link to a picture of what it looks like (on my machine anyway):

It's this foot to topstitch that makes the zipper look professional.  The little black piece on the foot lines up against the seam and does a nice neat topstitch to the left of the seam.  Wink

My evil printer wouldn't print out all the pics. Is this tutorial on a blog or in PDF somewhere? I love it and want to try it.
