Alright all, this is my first post ever, let's hope I'm doing it right!

I'll start off by saying I'm sortof obsessed with all things nautical and especially ships. So. Keeping that in mind.

I've always wanted to try embroidery, so the other day I ordered some thread, asked my mom for an old pillowcase she had lying around, picked up a needle and tried it out. This is what I got, three days later:

Sorry about the wrinkles. But wow, I had no idea how long embroidery took, nor how much thread one thing used up!

Here are some in-process shots just...because. Why not.

As you can see, my stitching isn't that great. I used the backstitch(?) for all of it, and either 1 or 3 threads for the whole thing. I'd love to know what you all think of my first try!

You freehanded this? Wow! You're doubly talented. You did a great job on the stitiching. It's hard to believe this is a first attempt.

Holy ship indeed, batgirl!

This is awesome!  I know you said it's just backstitching (like that matters!), but it really works for this piece.  It's great!  All the linework really deserves to stand out.  Great job!
