thanks so much to everyone!! I really appreciate the feedback.

This is a really good job.  What kind of "fabric" did you use for the seat and back?  I hope it's something washable.  It would be a shame to mess up a work of art.

Also, I can't really tell from the pics, but is the back where you painted the kitty metal?

I used vinyl to cover the seat and back, so yes they're totally washable plastic

and yep! the kitty is painted on the back

Those are the most solid, best quality highchairs ever built. I know, my youngest sister is now using the one my mother bought used when my older brother (now 24) was small. It has lived through several recoverings, although it doesn't look nearly as good as yours! The painting on the back is so great!

thank you! I thought about that when I made it. Several of my crafty friends are like "oh, someone would busy that for a show piece"-- to which I reply "then why did I spend so much time sealing it for everyday use?!!???!" I put tons of work into the use-it-every-day thing and I would like someone to actually use it. It's totally sturdy and durable

Thanks! haha, I know right? I took alot of the sharp, gross, sticky vinyl tears off of it too. Did I mention that like every inch of this thing was sticky when I bought it? I've impressed myself with how well I can deal with so many mysterious, old, sticky substances

It looks like a lot of work but boy was it worth it!  You could so sell those.  I don't have any small children and I'd like to have it sitting around just as Art.

I used metal primer under the black and about 3 coats of sealant over the black. Lots of painting...
